Yields & Liquidity

TLT closed at 78.37, up 1.4% on the week but still down 3.1% over 30 days, consistent with a short-term bid in long-end Treasuries fading a broader move higher in yields. The weekly duration rally points to softer growth expectations or a modest repricing of rate-cut odds — consistent with the equity drawdown. The 30-day picture is less friendly: TLT lower on the month suggests the backdrop since mid-September has been one of firmer real yields, which historically has tightened liquidity for risk assets broadly.

No single-day FOMC decision sits on the known calendar this week, so the yield tape is doing most of the talking. For crypto, the signal is mixed: a weekly duration rally is a tailwind at the margin, but the 30-day drag still frames the environment.

Dollar & Risk Tape

UUP firmed to 29.02, up 0.4% on the week and 3.4% on the month — a steady, grinding dollar bid that has historically been associated with headwinds for crypto. The 30-day move is the more consequential one; a 3%+ DXY proxy advance over four weeks is the kind of backdrop that typically coincides with capital rotating out of non-USD and risk assets.

QQQ at 743.57 is down 2.1% on the week but still up 4.0% on the month, a split tape that mirrors crypto's own structure: Bitcoin green on the month (+5.0%), red on the week (-1.5%). The one-week correlation between QQQ and BTC remained tight; the 30-day picture shows crypto underperforming the Nasdaq proxy by roughly a point, pointing to crypto-specific supply absorption rather than a pure beta trade.

Crypto Read

The macro setup — softer equities, firmer dollar, duration catching a weekly bid — would, in prior cycles, have been a mixed-to-negative tape for crypto. The actual read-through is more coherent on the downside than the upside. Spot crypto ETFs logged $979M in net outflows over the trailing seven sessions, according to InflowScan data, and stablecoin dry powder shrank: USDC supply fell $1.25B and USDT supply fell $363M on the week. Capital is leaving the complex, not sitting on the sidelines waiting to redeploy.

Within crypto, the dispersion matters. BTC held the $82K handle and remains the only major green on the 30-day tape. ETH (-5.6% weekly, -3.5% monthly), SOL (-10.5% weekly), and XRP (-6.3% monthly) are carrying the weight of the outflow cycle. The pattern is consistent with rotation toward BTC-dominant positioning as macro conditions tighten — a defensive posture within crypto rather than a defensive posture against crypto. ETF flow concentration in prior sessions supports this read, though the aggregate figure remains firmly negative.

Week Ahead Watchpoints

The macro calendar carries several data prints that could shift the tape. Rather than anchor to specific dates, the watch list is thematic.

  • CPI / PCE prints: any inflation surprise re-rates both TLT and UUP in real time; a soft print would relieve the dollar bid that has run for 30 days.
  • Fed speakers: commentary on the rate-cut path matters more than data in a quiet-tape week; dovish language historically associated with duration rallies and crypto bid.
  • Treasury auctions: long-end demand at upcoming auctions will confirm or contradict the weekly TLT bid. Weak auction tails would unwind the duration signal fast.
  • QQQ-crypto correlation: if QQQ stabilizes but crypto ETF outflows persist, the story shifts from macro-driven to crypto-specific supply overhang — a materially different setup.
