Where Things Stand
Bitcoin trades at $81,168 heading into the new week, down 0.6% over the past seven days but still up 13.7% on a 30-day basis. Ether sits at $2,374, lagging the majors with a 3.7% weekly decline. Solana is the standout on a weekly basis at +9.2%, with XRP up 1.7%. Spot ETF flows closed Friday at -$166M ↓, extending a three-session outflow streak that defines the setup for Monday's open.
FlowScores show BTC leading the complex at 53.3, with SOL at 48.5, ETH at 41.4, and XRP at 41.1, according to InflowScan data. The spread between BTC and ETH flow momentum is the widest among the majors and sets a backdrop in which bitcoin products carry the institutional bid while ether products lag.
Flow Momentum
The five-session tape has been choppy and net-negative in direction. Monday Oct. 12 logged -$143.8M ↓, Tuesday snapped briefly higher to +$170.7M ↑, then Wednesday registered the week's largest redemption at -$377.9M ↓. Thursday and Friday both printed outflows of -$55M ↓ and -$166M ↓, building the current three-day streak.
Streaks of this length are historically associated with repositioning rather than capitulation when prices hold their trend, and bitcoin's 30-day performance remains firmly positive. The question for the week is whether Monday's settled print breaks the streak or extends it to four. A fourth consecutive outflow day would be the longest run since early September, based on InflowScan data.
Key Levels to Watch
Bitcoin's $80,000 handle is the first level in focus. The pair has traded above it for most of the past month, and a close below would be the first since mid-September. Overhead, the $82,500 area capped last week's rebound attempts. For ether, the $2,400 level has flipped from support to immediate resistance after Friday's close below it; the next downside reference sits near $2,300.
Solana's 15.6% monthly gain brings it into contact with the $103 round number. XRP continues to trade in a tight band around $1.25–$1.30.
Funding Rate Setup
Binance perpetual funding paints a split picture. BTC funding sits at +0.0006% and ETH at +0.0021%, both effectively flat and consistent with neutral positioning. SOL and XRP tell a different story: SOL funding is -0.0087% and XRP is -0.0120%, both negative despite the two assets leading weekly price gains.
Negative funding alongside positive spot performance is consistent with prior episodes of spot-led rallies in which perpetual traders fade the move. The configuration can persist for extended periods, but it also leaves room for short-covering if spot bids continue.
Stablecoin Positioning
USDT supply fell -$656M ↓ over the past seven days to $183.4B, and USDC contracted -$475M ↓ to $72.6B, according to InflowScan data. Combined, that's roughly $1.1B of dry powder withdrawn from the system over the week.
Supply contractions of this scale are modest in context — both aggregates remain near cycle highs — but the direction is worth tracking. Sustained redemption from stablecoin pools has historically been associated with slower spot demand on the following week's tape.
Catalysts & Calendar
The week carries no scheduled FOMC decision, but Fed speakers are on the calendar through Wednesday. Options expiry on Friday Oct. 23 will be the week's largest crypto-specific catalyst; positioning into the expiry will be visible in the back half of the week. ETF issuer filings and any amended S-1 activity in the altcoin ETF pipeline remain live items to track.
Data points to watch: Monday's settled ETF flow print (streak break or extension), BTC's defense of $80,000, and whether SOL/XRP funding flips positive on continued spot strength or deepens negative on a pullback.
