Market Overview

Risk assets closed Friday with a modest bid across most of the majors. Bitcoin reclaimed the $64,900 handle with a 1.0% session gain to $64,972, trimming the week's decline to 0.6% while holding a 13.7% advance over the trailing 30 days. Solana was the standout, up 1.6% to $73.83 and extending its weekly gain to 9.2%. Ether rose 0.5% to $1,914.57 but remains 3.7% lower on the week. XRP was the only major in the red, sliding 0.9% to $1.03.

Asset Price Analysis

Bitcoin's session traded constructively above $64,000 support, with the reclaim of $64,900 leaving the tape rangebound between recent congestion at $63,500 and resistance near $66,000. The 13.7% 30-day gain remains the cleanest signal in the majors, though the flat-to-lower weekly print suggests consolidation rather than continuation.

Solana's 9.2% weekly advance stands apart. The move to $73.83 puts it 15.6% higher on the month, outpacing bitcoin's 30-day return and pointing to relative-strength positioning that has persisted through the week's broader chop. Ether continues to lag; the $1,914 close leaves it capped below $2,000, a level it has failed to defend on multiple attempts over the past fortnight. The 3.7% weekly drawdown is the deepest among the majors.

XRP's 0.9% pullback to $1.03 came against a firmer tape elsewhere. The token still holds a 1.7% weekly gain and 8.4% monthly return, but Friday's underperformance is worth noting given the otherwise green session.

Prior-Session ETF Flows

Issuer flow reports for Friday's session have not yet settled. Thursday, August 6, saw +$237.2M ↑ in aggregate net inflows across spot crypto ETFs, according to InflowScan data, providing the bid that carried into Friday's tape.

  • IBIT (BlackRock): +$129.3M ↑
  • ETHA (BlackRock): +$81.6M ↑
  • MSBT (Morgan Stanley): +$14.9M ↑
  • HODL (VanEck): -$33.0M ↓
  • XRPT (Volatility Shares): -$1.1M ↓

BlackRock dominated both sides of the ledger, with IBIT and ETHA together absorbing $210.9M — roughly 89% of the day's net take. VanEck's HODL registered the largest outflow, a $33M redemption that partially offset the BlackRock bid. Thursday's XRP tape was partial, with 8 of 9 funds reporting; XRPK remained in settlement. InflowScan data shows Friday's issuer prints will publish in Monday's pre-market brief.

Stablecoin Flows

Stablecoin supply was mixed. USDC added $244M to reach $72.0B, while USDT contracted by $175M to $183.2B, according to InflowScan data. The net aggregate print is modestly positive but small in the context of the broader stablecoin base, consistent with sideways sidelined-capital positioning rather than a decisive dry-powder build.

Outlook

Monday's pre-market brief will carry Friday's settled ETF flow prints — the key data point to watch given Thursday's $237M inflow and the concentration in BlackRock products. On the tape, bitcoin faces resistance at $66,000 with support at $64,000; a hold above the $64,900 reclaim would be consistent with continuation of the 30-day trend. Ether's inability to defend $2,000 remains the key overhang, and any close above that level would mark a shift in the recent range. Solana's relative strength bears watching for signs of exhaustion after the 15.6% monthly move.
